Today, we talked about something near and dear to our hearts. Foster care is something both of our families have done. We have a love for small people who need security and love for a short time or forever. Foster care is so much more than just watching someone’s child. It is often nurturing a whole family waiting for the courts to figure out the outcome of the story. It is heart wrenching but also so rewarding.
This is a topic we love because it has touched our families so deeply. Everyone always talks about impacting the lives of kids in foster care. We feel we were blessed as much if not more by the little people who found their way into our homes. It is so amazing to be able help families get back together. The reunions of parents and their children touch your heart in a way little else can.
We also discussed what adoption from foster care is like. It is bitter sweet to adopt. On the adoptive parents’ side there is unbelievable joy to bring home, forever, a little person you’ve loved for so long. But you also know there are birth parents grieving the loss of a child too.
