Listen to Harvest Time HERE
There are few things better than seeing all your hard work come to fruition in the garden. You start out with tiny seeds in March. First, you love and nurture them all through the summer months making sure they have all the water and fertilizer they need. You celebrate their first fruit. That first tiny promise of good things to come. Then you see more and more and MORE fruit. And almost over night your overrun with cucumbers, peppers, squash, tomatoes and all the rest.
Now what? Well now is the best part. The part we’ve all been waiting for. Harvest time!! You haul all your delicious produce into the house. If you’re lucky you need buckets.
Again, now what? You’ll need to figure out ways to preserve and fast. Today, we tried to help out with that. We talked a bit about different preservation methods. You’ll see, we definitely have our favorites.
We promised a few links today.
Find our mother’s refrigerator dill pickle recipe HERE
We also mentioned my (Ellyn’s) dehydrator. Find a link for that HERE
We will eventually start doing videos of our own but we don’t want to ask our listeners to wait. Here are a couple videos on the basics of canning HERE and HERE. Roots and Refuge Farm is a great place to start if you’re trying to become self sufficient.
Click HERE to try the fermented hot sauce recipe we used. It turned out delicious
Lastly, we mentioned the Ball Canning Book. There are several. We have this one HERE. I’m sure they’re all good so don’t go buy a different one if this doesn’t happen to be the one you have.
